Mets Rumors: David Wright Doesn't Want to be Traded

New York Mets third baseman David Wright does not want to be traded, according to Kevin Kiernan of nypost.com: "Wright told The Post he wants no part of being traded." "I knew that when I signed my extension, I knew that things were not going to be easy...(I am) still 100 percent committed to the Mets," Wright said.

This past winter, David Wright was voted "The Face of Major League Baseball" in an MLB Network poll of fans. This popular Met player also represented Team USA in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and was affectionately referred to as "Captain America". Regardless, these flattering characterizations  have not helped Wright bear the burden of bringing a winning team back to Queens.

Over the course of a 162 game season, the seven-time All-Star, now in his 11th season, has averaged the following: .300 BA, .380 OBP, .500 SLG %, 184 H, 99 R, 40 doubles, 25 HRs, and 102 RBIs. Unfortunately, in 2014, Wright is on pace to post career lows in almost every offensive category.

Now in his age 31 season, is the "face of the franchise" succumbing to the must-win-now pressures of playing in New York? Is the lack of protection and a strong supporting cast finally wearing thin? Wright also observed, "The challenge of it, the loyalty to the organization, the direction I think we're going, yes, we've gone through some rough stretches these last couple of years and the last few days have not been easy, but this is a process."

One can truly appreciate Wright's Stars and Stripes attitude, but the clock is ticking.  Fans, tune in next time and see the fate of David Wright, as he fights all the fastballs, sliders, curveballs, and mismanagement in New York: same Met time, same Met channel.

  1. What do you think the mets lineup will look like? Talk is curtis is gonna leadoff. I'm thinking granderson, murphy, duda, cuddayer, wright, lagares, dnaurd, flores. Do you think wright will see better pitches there and maybe take some pressure off ? Even if curtis doesn't lead I think capt america should still be 5th. Your thoughts?
